Mat Pilates Questions
-
Mat Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on developing core strength, flexibility, and overall body awareness. It is based on the principles of the Pilates method, which was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century.
The method originally involved the use of specialised equipment, but Mat Pilates adapts these exercises to be performed on a mat, making it more accessible and versatile. Mat Pilates exercises typically involve controlled, precise movements that target specific muscle groups, particularly those in the core (abdominals, back, and pelvic muscles).
The exercises emphasise proper alignment, breathing, and engaging the deep muscles of the abdomen and spine to improve posture, balance, and stability.

We strongly recommend checking with your doctor or physiotherapist prior to attending a class if you are working with any injuries. Depending on the severity of the injury, appropriate modifications can be made to your classes, ensuring that you are being cared for in the best way possible. It's also a good idea to book in a private session with us prior to attending if you are working with a major injury or aren't sure. Please email or call to book a private session.

We will modify exercises to suit your individual needs & make you feel as comfortable as possible.
Please no Prenatal clients to our Reformer HIIT, Reformer SCULPT or Mat Pilates SCULPT classes past 16 weeks. If you have any particular health concerns & would like to discuss further please give us a call & we can work out what will be the safest & best options for you. At Fleur Wellbeing, we don't group our classes into different levels. Instead we prefer to offer modifications, progressions and regressions to suit all levels of ability within the class. So we suggest just trying everything out and giving it a go!
Our Friendly instructors are here to support you every step of the way and you can always ask for assistance if needed. On your first visit, come and introduce yourself and we will make you feel right at home. Some of our easier classes include our SCULPT + FLOW classes which focus a little more on technique, alignment and control. The Stretch + Release class is also a really wonderful class that is suitable for beginners, yet also so beneficial for all levels.
Our more challenging classes are the HIIT Style classes which are at an intermediate / advanced level and are designed for clients wishing to build on their foundations learnt in our FLOW and SCULPT classes. We recommend clients working with injuries steer towards the FLOW and SCULPT classes rather than HIIT.

Reformer Pilates Questions
-
Reformer Pilates is a specific type of exercise that is based on the principles of the Pilates method but is performed using a piece of equipment called a "Reformer." The Reformer is a specialized apparatus designed by Joseph Pilates, the creator of the Pilates method, to facilitate a wide range of exercises that aim to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and body awareness.
The Reformer consists of a sliding carriage that moves back and forth along a frame, with various springs and attachments that provide different levels of resistance. It also has adjustable footbars, straps, and other components that allow for a wide variety of movements and exercises. The springs on the Reformer provide resistance, which can be adjusted to accommodate different levels of strength and fitness.

The choice between Mat Pilates and Reformer Pilates depends on your individual goals, preferences, and any specific needs or limitations you may have. Both forms of Pilates offer excellent benefits, but they have distinct characteristics that might make one more suitable for you than the other.
Choose Mat Pilates if you want a more accessible, convenient option that still offers a strong focus on core strength and flexibility. It's great for home practice and those on a budget.
Choose Reformer Pilates if you're looking for a more challenging and versatile workout, or if you have specific rehabilitation needs. It's ideal for those who want to invest in studio classes and seek a more guided experience.
Remember, both forms of Pilates offer valuable benefits, and many practitioners enjoy incorporating both into their routine. Consulting with a Pilates instructor who can assess your individual needs and goals may also help you make the best choice for your fitness journey.
Barre Questions
-
A barre class is a fitness class that combines elements of ballet, Pilates, yoga, and strength training to provide a full-body workout. The class is typically named after the "barre," which is a horizontal handrail that ballet dancers use for support during their training.
In a barre class, participants use the barre as a prop for various exercises that target different muscle groups, with a focus on toning, flexibility, and balance. You can also expect to use other small props such as resistance bands, small pilates balls, leg weights, dumbbells and sliding discs for an extra burn!

The Barre HIIT class is quite similar to SCULPT but has much more of a cardio element to it, and you can expect intervals that will get your heart rate up!
TRX Questions
-
TRX, which stands for "Total Body Resistance Exercise," is a form of suspension training that uses a specialized piece of equipment called a TRX Suspension Trainer. Developed by a former Navy SEAL, Randy Hetrick, TRX training focuses on using bodyweight exercises and gravity to build strength, flexibility, balance, and core stability.
The TRX Suspension Trainer consists of adjustable straps with handles that can be attached to an anchor point, such as a door frame, a sturdy beam, or a specially designed TRX anchor point. The user can adjust the length of the straps to create different levels of resistance and leverage, allowing for a wide variety of exercises targeting different muscle groups.

Every woman experiences their pregnancy differently, so this is really dependent on how you are feeling during those later weeks of your pregnancy. We also recommend checking in regularly with your care provider to make sure they are still happy for you to be attending classes, usually they will let you know if there is any medical reason you need to take it easy or stop exercising. Generally, If you are feeling comfortable and well then there is no need to stop until you feel it is time.
-
At Fleur Wellbeing we follow the Australian Government Department of Health Guidelines. These guidelines recommend to avoid lying on your back for any extended period of time after 28 weeks, however this is a very individual experience and we will always check in with each individual woman throughout her pregnancy to ensure she is comfortable.
We have specialised Pregnancy wedges at the studio which we incorporate into our classes to ensure you are not lying flat on your back, and instead you are lying on a slight incline which is much more comfortable for you. We also can modify exercises so that they are performed side-lying instead of lying flat on the back. Our classes are highly adaptable so we will always ensure that you are feeling safe and secure.

Niggles, aches and pains are quite common throughout pregnancy, so if you start to experience any of these please let us know as well as your care team. Women's health physiotherapists are also wonderful to seek guidance from throughout your pregnancy and we can highly recommend some local physiotherapists within Newcastle. Depending on individual circumstances we can certainly modify exercises to suit most cases, unless of course you have been advised by your care team to cease exercising altogether.

The timeline for when you can start exercising after having a baby can vary based on individual factors such as the type of delivery (vaginal or cesarean), your overall health, and how your body is recovering. It's crucial to consult with your healthcare provider before beginning any postpartum exercise regimen to ensure it's safe and appropriate for your specific situation. In general, here are some guidelines:
Vaginal Delivery: If you had an uncomplicated vaginal delivery, you might be able to start light exercises, such as gentle walking, as soon as you feel up to it. Some healthcare providers suggest waiting about 4-6 weeks before engaging in more intense or high-impact activities. Your body needs time to heal, and it's important not to overexert yourself in the early weeks.
Cesarean Section (C-Section): If you had a cesarean delivery, your recovery time may be a bit longer. Your healthcare provider will likely recommend waiting 6-8 weeks before starting more strenuous exercise. Walking and gentle movements can usually begin sooner, but it's crucial to follow your provider's guidance to avoid straining your incision site.
Pelvic Floor Health: Regardless of the type of delivery, paying attention to your pelvic floor health is important. Pelvic floor exercises, often referred to as Kegels, can help strengthen the muscles that support your pelvic organs. These exercises can usually be started soon after childbirth but should be done under the guidance of a healthcare professional.
Listen to Your Body: No matter the delivery method, the most important factor is listening to your body. Pay attention to how you feel and prioritize rest and recovery. If you experience any pain, discomfort, or unusual symptoms, consult your healthcare provider before resuming or adjusting your exercise routine.
Postpartum Checkup: Before starting any exercise routine, you should have a postpartum checkup with your healthcare provider. They will assess your overall health, incision site (if applicable), and discuss any exercise restrictions or recommendations based on your individual situation.
Start Slowly: When you're cleared to start exercising, begin with gentle activities and gradually increase the intensity and duration. Postpartum fitness classes or programs specifically designed for new mothers can be beneficial because they often focus on exercises that are safe and effective for the postpartum period.
Remember that every woman's recovery is unique, and it's essential to give your body the time it needs to heal and adjust after childbirth. Always consult your healthcare provider before starting any postpartum exercise routine, and be patient with yourself as you work toward regaining your strength and fitness.

Usually Bubs that are a little less mobile are easier to "contain" so to speak, however we do have a play pen that we can set up for your peace of mind. We do have mums that bring along toddlers too, we suggest bringing along some "distractions" such as snacks and toys etc to keep your little ones occupied while you workout. It really is whatever you are comfortable with Mumma!

Once you enter the Mindbody system you can create a personal login, purchase, book & manage your classes there.

If a class is full and you would like to be added to the waitlist, click on "Sign Up" and a new window will pop up asking if you want to be added to the waitlist. Click "ok" if you do. You can see your waitlist schedule on your schedule tab, by clicking on the waitlist link on the top right of your schedule page (if you have at least 1 waitlist). You can also cancel your waitlist class from this screen. The waitlist is an automatic process where if someone cancels more than 9 hours prior to the start of class, and you are on the waitlist, you will be automatically pushed into the class. Since we allow clients to book well in advance, the likelihood of someone cancelling is very high and if you are on waitlist, assume you are getting in. That means planning ahead and making sure you are ready to attend. Please only add yourself to the waitlist if you really want to attend the class. If you no longer want to be added, please take yourself off the waitlist.
FOR EARLY MORNING CLASSES
Since we have a 9 hour cancellation policy, this means that if you are on the waitlist for an early morning class you may get added from the waitlist late the night before. For example, you are on the waitlist for a 7:30am class the next morning, you can be added into that class automatically from the waitlist anywhere up until 10:30pm the previous night (9 hours before). What we recommend doing is setting your alarm for the class the next morning (as if you are going) as the likely hood of getting in is actually quite high. Check your Mindbody schedule first thing in the morning and if you got in then head into the studio for your sweat, shake and burn! But if not you can either head back to bed or get a nice early start to the day.
Or the other option is checking your schedule the night before, and if you haven’t yet been added from the waitlist prior to going to bed and you would rather not risk being added in overnight, simply cancel yourself off the waitlist. This means that if and when someone cancels out of the class then the next person on the waitlist will have the chance to be added in instead.
-
Group classes require a minimum of 3 people to go ahead and Reformer sessions require a minimum of 2 people. If by 2 hours before a class commences there are not enough people booked into the class, unfortunately we will have to then cancel that session. Early morning classes will be cancelled the night before if there are not enough people booked in by 9pm the night before. You will receive a text notification from your Instructor with as much notice as possible to let you know that your class has been cancelled. You might like to attend a different session that day instead so please check out our other class times and see if there is another class time that suits you. Please be assured that you will not be charged for your class that was cancelled, and we apologise for any inconvenience that class cancellations cause.
-
We kindly request that cancellations or rescheduling of classes be made more than 9 hours prior to the commencement of the class. While we understand that unforeseeable circumstances may arise, we strive to maintain consistency and fairness for all our clients. Failure to attend a booked class or cancellation within 9 hours of its commencement will result in forfeiture of that class (for casual visits, multi-class passes, or the 2 x group classes/Reformer p/w Membership). For those on an unlimited Membership, a fee of $15 will be charged.
-
On the Mindbody app, go to the Profile screen. Select the class or appointment you'd like to cancel. At the bottom of the screen, tap on Cancel, then Cancel Booking to confirm. It is each client's responsibility to cancel their booking via the Mindbody booking system at least 9 hours prior to a class commencing to avoid the late cancel/no show fee and so that someone else may attend in your place. If you are having trouble cancelling the booking then please contact us via phone on 0408 385 340.
-
Please aim to arrive about 5 minutes before your scheduled class time. Each session starts with a crucial warm-up to prime your body for the workout ahead and most importantly, to minimise the risk of injury. For safety reasons, clients arriving more than 10 minutes late may not be admitted to the class.
